But now was not the time to think about his hunger - the leader of the pack was on his way, and he could not appear preoccupied by hunger. The howl seemed to have come from a long way away, and the huge empty plain that made up the packlands would provide him with a visual as soon as the alpha male came into view, or so he assumed, and so for the moment he paused in his brisk steps, his body slouching into a somewhat rigid position as he awaited the arrival of LZ. Imagine the young wolf-dog's surprise when the monstrously tall black wolf that was the alpha appeared magically before him, his tall silhouette cutting jaggedly into the sky like a a mountain. The pale-coated male repressed a yelp of surprise, his own cobalt blue gaze averting the elder male's. He knew better than to look the alpha male directly in the eye - and so instead he stared, somewhat awkwardly, at the black-coated wolf's nose. Cruz himself stood two feet at the shoulder, and he realized presently that his posture wasn't particularly submissive, as it should have properly been in the presence of the alpha male. Quickly he shifted numerous little aspects of his stance: his ears rotated on his head, turning backwards and pressing squarely against his skull; his tail inverted itself almost completely as he tucked it between his legs, pressing the feathery appendage against his belly. His lean body crouched, but not in the preparatory spring that comes with play or hunting. Cruz was trying his hardest. The elder male's austere countenance was rather terrifying for the younger wolf-dog, as he hardly wanted to confront an angry alpha male, most especially one of LZ's exceptional size. But as the senior wolf's proud face broke into a grin, Cruz couldn't help but give a light smile himself in reply, relaxing slightly. The blood staining the wolf's cream-colored muzzle didn't bother Cruz in the least; he had, after all, smelled the male's kill. The deep bell of LZ's voice rang out, and despite it's sonorous ring there was a comforting kindness that further calmed the ashen-colored yearling. "H-hello, LZ, sir... My name is Cruz. The lands you own are lovely, and I've been seeking a home for a while now. I've come to ask for acceptance into this pack - I'd like to have a family, and I want a safe place for my future generations." His voice trembled lightly, but his intentions were sincere. Another song rose into the winds, this time from downwind - and thusly faint. Forgetting himself for a moment, Cruz's black-tipped ears rose and tilted towards AmethystEyez, and his blue eyes left LZ for a moment as he turned his head to seek the owner of the voice. He knew he was not being spoken to, that the message was not for him, but he was curious nonetheless... he recovered quickly, returning his gaze and attention to the large male before him.

The howl that rose in the wind made the wolf-dog straighten, his supple young muscles tensing beneath his cream-colored fur as he anxiously read the message on the wind. His nostrils expanded and contracted in time as he tested the air, scenting the approaching alpha male and gathering a picture from the scent that he received. Large, dominant and older than him were the traits he could gather from the wind - and with a fresh kill. Hunger snarled within his belly, for he himself had not eaten in some time; his departure from his old home had been swift, too quick for him to bother with food, and he'd had to keep his hunger at bay with rats and numerous small animals that inhabited the brush of the Mountain.
