He snarled, and though his voice was steady as he spoke, he was aware that his words were empty. The wolf-dog was a powerful fighter, but even on a good day the dragon would be likely to outmatch him. And today, given that WindRacer was still recovering from hovering on the brink of death for the better part of a year, was not a good day. Still, the brindle-coated hybrid would not go down without a fight, and satisfied that he had now drawn the dragon far enough from the packlands, now braced himself. If there was to be no escape, so be it...he would do as much damage as he could before.... At least the pack...at least his mother...would be safe. WindRacer growled, baring his teeth. "And I don't plan on co-operating anytime soon, so I guess you'll just have to come and get me." "Leave him alone!" The voice came from behind the dragon, a low growl in the words. The statement was spoken firmly, the sentance seeming far stronger than the wolf who actually issued it, a small miracle. AmethystEyez stood behind the large beast, panting heavily, glaring at the back of the dragon, waiting for it to acknowledge her presence...and her warning. She did her best to maintain an illusion of strength, but there was a slight tremble to her rear hind leg that betrayed her. The limb was in agony, aching before her return home due to a hunting injury and then pushed beyond its limit by her sprint here, it took the small wolf tremendous effort simply stand upon it. Of course, even hiding the injury to her leg and her exhaustion from her attempt to heal Toric, other things were not so easily disguised, such as the way her ribs were plain beneath her silver coat, for almost every meal she had caught during her time away from the mountain had gone to feed her ailing son and his siblings. She had risked so much...sacrificed so much...just to keep her son in the land of the living...that she was not about to let this dragon make all that effort mean nothing. WindRacer rolled his eyes at the words that reached his ears, recognizing the voice immediately. "Go away...I'm handling this." He snarled through bared teeth. His whole intention of leading the dragon away from the pack was to insure his mother's safety...now she had foolishly gone and followed him here. He might have said more to object to his mother's presence, but at that moment a wave of dizziness swept over him, and it took all his attention to remain upon his feet.

WindRacer stepped back slowly with each forward movement the dragon took, trying to maintain a bit of distance between them...but he knew he was in serious trouble. He could feel the blood from the gash in his skull seeping down his body, trailing down his side and left foreleg, leaving bloody pawprints upon the earth. Though he was watchful for an avenue of escape, there was no such route immediately forthcoming.
