The Stoneware mark on your platter was used by a lot of different potteries in the 19th century. Are you able to read the first initial in your mark? The closest I can come is D & S. That could stand for Dimmock & Smith, Hanley Staffordshire c. 1826-59; however, I have not seen the mark with those initials. It would be toward the end of that period if it is in fact a mark used by that partnership. If it is B & S, Barker & Son used a variation of that mark c. 1850-60; however, the mark shown in my book spells out the name -- 'Barker & Son'. The Wedgwood & Co. mark on p. 20 in Gaston's 3rd edition is after 1891 because it has the word 'England' added under the mark. Your platter is earlier than that.
