Yesterday I went to a yard sale and came across blue willow china - cups, saucers, plates, etc. - 8 piece setting for $50 - no chips on any of it. The lady I got it from said she got it yrs. ago from her grandmother. Can you believe it, of course I scooped it up. I already had a set that my father bought me (new)about 5 yrs. ago, but want to pass this along in my famiy to my 2 nieces.
Anyway, I was comparing the 2 and the one I bought appears to have better detailing, and on the back of the plate it states "By Appointment to her majesty the queen" by Johnson Brothers. There is also a birds with the words "Willow in Between." The one my father bought me does not have "By Appointment...." It says Johnson Bros, Willow. I am trying to find out approx. how old the plates are that I bought at the yard sale are, and the differences in these 2. I wonder why one would say "By appointment to her majesty"...and the other doesn't? Any suggestions?
