Posted by Connie Rogers on January 25, 2007, 10:13 am, in reply to "George Jones & Sons "Willow" tea cups/saucers & pots" George Jones & Sons is one of over 400 British potteries documented in my book THE ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BRITISH WILLOW WARE that produced willow pattern. We don't find a lot of willow by George Jones in this country although we know that it was produced through the 1930s. In 1861 George Jones purchased copper engraved plates at an auction of more than 5 tons of copper plates from the bankrupt business of Adams & Sons, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Robert Cluett wrote a book titled GEORGE JONES CERAMICS 1861-1951. In that book he has reproduced a page from a trade catalog, dated 1924, with a complete line of blue willow dinnerware. I have only seen plates, butter dish inserts, and a compote and 8 inch tile shown in my book. I use the tile every day as a teapot stand. As with most early 20th century willow pattern, it was made to be used and does not have much value on the resale market.
