I don't have much info but I have a similar set with 17 pieces that was mine when I was young- which would have been in the fifties. My box has the bottom label pretty much intact. The three lines on mine are PASSED/JIS S-3003/J.P.I.A. The number on the side of my box is R (or B) 822 A.
