Posted by Leigh Ann I did not realize I was speaking to the guru of willow… Imagine my surprise when I type “The Illustrated Encyclopedia Of British Willow Ware” into Amazon.com and find your name as the author! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me, I truly appreciate it. A few questions: 2) What do you feel is an appropriate value for these types of pieces? How difficult are they to find? (I’d hate to pass up a piece because of price and not be able to find another one—my mindset is: buy it if you like it—dangerous, I know). 3) Also, I find the dating confusing. Is there a book that adequately describes it to those of us without PhD’s in history of ceramics? (I have a masters in education but that doesn’t help me here! LOL)… 4) What is the significance of the hand-painted numbers and capital letters? For example, I have a small, "clobbered" jug marked “Wedgwood: Etruria, England” (stamp) “WILLOW” (stamp) “R” (stamp ) “36” (embossed) “3HS” (embossed) “6(or 1)8652” (hand painted). I’ve read from 1907 on the first letter for the month was replaced by a 3, with A beginning in 1924. Would that mean my jug is made after 1907, but predates 1924?…Or does the “36” indicate in was made in 1936? If so, what is the “HS?” It could not be a month, could it?

Connie,
1) Does Amazon have the best rate for your book ($44)? Or do you sell autographed copies?!
