Posted by Connie Rogers Flow blue was made mostly on ironstone in the 19th century. Hotel ware is mostly from the 20th century and is often made with a transferware pattern applied before it is dipped into the glaze. When the ink is smeared, it just means that the person who applied the transfer did a messy job. In fact it may be a second. Hotel ware is generally not as valuable as other transferware on earthenware or porcelain or flow blue.
