While riding my bike to school one day, I happened upon a small bird, standing like a pedestrian at a traffic light. He was young enough to still have fuzzy feathers on top of his head, kind of an Einstein look. I wanted to pass him by, because I thought, 'shit, what am I going to do with this stupid bird'...he looked up and helplessly chirped a beep of "help!" 'Damn it,' I thought, I've got to get to my English lit class and I don't have time for this! But, to no avail, I gave in, put the stupid bird in my back pack and peddled to school. I immediately went to the biology department and tried to pawn him off on the science students--nope, they were too smart for that; however, they told me what to feed the little shit--worms! Worms?@! No Way!!! This bird has got to go, I'm not touching, much less mashing up meal worms. So, that night, while I was mashing up meal worms, I thought, gee, this stupid bird is kind of cute, so I named him/her, Henry. To make a long story short, this stupid bird turned out to be not only a girl (Blackbird), but one of the best animal/pet experiences I ever had. This was the most demanding, persistent bird. After Henry graduated from worms, she seemed to like tuna the best. Henry followed me about the house, every day, squawking and demanding food and for me to play with her! Later, when she learned to fly, she would fly off for miles at a time and would come back to me when I would call her. Twenty years later, I now found a baby blue bird in my back yard--I gave the bird to my daughter. This bird is older, and I'm hoping that cereal and tuna, will suffice--I really don't feel like running to the pet store to hunt down meal worms! Good luck with your baby birds—P.S., you teach them to fly by moving your hand up and down really quickly—the resistance and gravity forces them to flap their wings. In order to teach them how to peck for food, get a small object and tie it to a string—lower it in front of their face and eventually they will peck at it—when they do, give them a treat, and there you have it, your own flying, pecking and little pooping menace to your house, which will be worth every minute of toil…
