My dog brought me a sparrow with an apparant broken leg. It also had possible internal bleeding as it had blood from its mouth for the first night.This has resolved. It is eating small amounts of worms & seeds & it is defecating. I have kept it in a small, dark, padded area to lessen its movement & to avoid shock from stimulation. Does anyone know anything about broken legs? It does move its foot so there is some neurological function remaining. However it falls over on its side or scoots on its chest when moving. Can/should I keep it as a pet if it can't function in the wild? What is the most humane painless way to euthanize it if it does not heal & is in pain? How do I know if it is in pain? It currently does not cheep. Thanks for any suggestions.
