: I raised a baby that was kicked out by
: its mother becuase it was deformed.
: It had only one wing and no feet,
: just stubs. I was only a few days old
: from what the vet told us. Our vet
: gave her antibiotics to safegaurd
: against infection and wished me the
: best at trying to help it. She said
: it was so small and defective it's
: chances of surviving the were small.
: I wanted to try to save her so I took
: her home after two days there.
: When she was a baby I fed her dry cat
: food that had been soaked overnight
: in water and made it really soupy so
: it easy to feed her. I added a little
: suet and to it too. I used a dropper
: and fed the formula to her every
: hour. She was so small that I took
: her with me to work in a little
: warmer, it was a small souvenir box
: and I went to WalMart and bought
: those warmer packets that heat on
: their own when you shake them. I put
: them in the bottom of the box and
: filled it with quilt stuffings. After
: about a month she would eat every
: couple of hours and the food did not
: have to be soupy just softened. I put
: about a half cup of dry Deli Cat in a
: sandwich bag, put in half that amount
: of water in it so the dry food would
: absorb it and each one would puff up.
: She loved it and I was able to feed
: her about 5-6 each feeding. She grew
: up and continued to eat that
: moistened puffed up Deli Cat food for
: the rest of her life. Once grown I
: fed her each morning a small hand
: full of the puffed cat food along
: with a vegetable or hulled peanuts,
: canned peas and things like that. She
: loved grapes and lima beans but we
: would have to remove the outer hull
: of the lima's and crack the grapes
: just a bit. Her beak was crooked too
: so she was challenged in that way as
: well.
: One of her favorite foods was diced
: potatoes and of course un-salted
: crackers. She loved to break them up
: and hid them under her little rug or
: in one of her many hiding spots in
: her enviroment we created for her. We
: made a bird bath and drinking pond
: for her out of a low kitty pan that
: had two sections, she loved taking
: her bath in the one and the other
: side was her drinking water.
: We named her Chipper, I taught her
: how to jump on her little stubby legs
: by manually lifting her and after
: several months she learned this was
: the best way to move around. She
: learned her name, you could call her
: and she would come hoping over. She
: knew how to turn on a little TV we
: had in her room where the special
: house was we had built for her to
: accomodate her shortcomings. She
: played with jax balls and the caps
: from pop bottles. Hiding them in
: special corners and under things
: along with her snack stashes. She was
: a bright light for us for over six
: years. She even could meow just like
: a cat because we had four and she
: heard them on the other side of her
: door. We installed a glass door on
: the room where her house was so she
: could see out and be part of the
: family and my office was in her room
: so I would take her out and let her
: sit on my shoulder when I was in
: there working.
: Along with making regular blue jay
: calls and songs she could make the
: sound of the fax machine and phone
: because she heard them in the office.
: Chipper lived for nearly 7-years and
: we loved her very, very much. She was
: a wonderful member of our family.
: Good Luck
