I have a blue jay that comes daily to eat and her leg is severly injured. it looks like it is hanging on my a tendon. its ripped nearly off at the joine. the leg just hangs and she is using the stump part to balance herself with, and is able to nurse(feed) her 2 babies she brings with her to my home
i cant catch her because she is wild
she comes very near to me but not close enough and iwouldnt want to stress the bird. i hate seeing the leg dangle..i was thinking it would just fall off as it is only held on by the 2 tendons and nothing more..no skin no feathers...it just dangles..the upper leg was very swolen but is coming down naturally. she eats contsantly and drinks and sings...should i just let her be and feed her
thanks

: best thing to do is assess whether
: it's a baby or injured adult. If
: it's an injured adult, try to get it
: into a cardboard box w/plenty of
: holes in it by gently guiding it
: into the box w/ a towel or sheet,
: and then get it to your nearest
: emergency vet or wildlife rehab.
: center(call information). If it's a
: baby bird(still has puffy down
: instead of feathers, best thing to
: do is hang it in an easter basket or
: makeshift nest in the nearest tree
: and hope mom comes around to feed
: it.It's not easy to hand rear a wild
: bird ant they have to be fed about
: every 2-3 hours. best left to a
: rehab. specialist.Good luck!
