anger and doubts with me at those times. Once, I was about 10, she made a remark, asked me what I thought and I told her. It was similar to what she'd said. I went out the door right after and Dad was standing there and repeated what I'd said, word for word. He looked so hurt. I never took verbal sides again, and I kept my thoughts to myself. Depression can make a woman say things she likely would never say aloud. And that's where Mom was. They argued and made up and most of their problems came because Dad was a functioning alcoholic.
