Lets just say I'm not the best scribe. I'll try and do better.
Let's see if I can remember what all I should put in here...

Going back to last spring, the Widowmakers Frolic was held on the usual Memorial Day
weekend at Widowmaker Station. As always we all had a great time!
It was quite a bit dryer weather than the previous year, but the evenings were anything but dry.
Had a pretty good turnout including a few new folks.
In addition to the regular full schedule of shooting, Whip came up with a squirrel hunt
scenario that included an attack by a water balloon indian. More than one person ended up
a little bit damp. Even at least one who stayed back in camp. It was a hoot!
The top 5 places in the agg were;
1. Bugbite
2. Jethro
3. Lurch
4. Scott Bumpus
5. Hawk

The 2017 Hatchey Run KOA Rendezvous
Widowmakers present were Lurch and his wife Ginger, Diane Rinehart, Bill Chadwick, Dennis Burgess, BugBite, Precious, The Tennesee Whip and one refugee from central North Carolina
( Grizz )
It was a great shoot Bugbite did a masterful job of setting up the range the 100 percent breakable Novelty range was one of the best I have ever seen, as Bugbite did not hang out Oreos I had no grievance. Horizontal toothpicks, snack crackers, chalk. Freeze pops and pepermint life savers! We had to reset the course every morning because the coons ate everything but the chalk and toothpicks
There was a woodswalk. Novelty, smoothbore, pistol, archery and knife and hawk
the Widowmakers who placed in all the shooting was Lurch, Precious and Grizz these are top three finishes. I was doing well until the wheels fell off my archery and knife and hawk but I still had a great time I look forward to going back one of these days.
I can't gripe too much about the KOA campground not considering the amount of time I spent in Jerry Beck's tin TP watching Walker Texas Ranger!
It was a typical spring event with rain but most of us got to shoot in the dry, taking dry canvas home did not happen. Of course this is nothing new in spring events.

Friendship
The Widowmaker Beer match will be shot at the spring shoot from now on. There are not enough beer drinkers stay the week at the fall shoot, this leaves JJ alone with a bunch of beer!
Widowmakers did well in both the spring and fall shoots as usual. I had a list of those who won medals
but I don't know what I did with it. So, congratulations to all who won medals. Keep up the good work.

2017 Fort de Chartres fall rondy
For the first time in a long time there was a all-Widowmaker team for the woodswalk. Nappy, Don and Susie Hulvey, Rich Lambert (new Widowmaker, welcome to the club), and myself made up a team. We outshot every other team by a wide margin! But we only placed 4th.
They had a bag-check worth a possible 39 points. We had to draw cards, each card had an item assigned to it
and if somebody on the team had that item with them it was worth one point. Draw until your team doesn't have that item. Our 3rd draw was a sword. Who brings a dang sword on a woodswalk?
It's a real good rondy. Lots of good folks. Lots of vendors. The team woodswalk is always a lot of fun. Different every year. You never know exactly what to expect.
If you have the first weekend in November open and want to go to a rondy, get a team together and go to this one. We will be there again!

News from Whip
Peterson's Hunting magazine went to TN and interviewed Whip. They're gonna do an article about him in
the June/July issue is what I think he said. Keep yer eye peeled on the magazine rack. Should be
interesting. Maybe Whip will even autograph one for me since he'll be a famous celebrity.

Talked to Lizard.
There were rumors that he had a stroke. He didn't. He just got his crazy pills messed up.
He's as good as ever a crazy old buckskinner ever was.
Lizard said his brain is gone but he's still on his feet. So he's doing OK. ;-)
Here's a tip from Lizard. Use raw sheeps wool for patching. He says it don't take much to get a good
seal and the lanolin in it helps lube the bore and helps keep it clean. You can get it pretty cheap on e-bay.
God willin' and the Creek don't rise, Lizard will ride along with me down to the Frolic.
Speaking of.........
The Widowmaker Frolic is Coming Up Real Soon!!!!
All Widowmakers should do their best to be there. It's the best rendezvous anywhere!
The official dates are May 20 - May 27, 2018. Most folks will show up Wednesday May 23. I'm sure Whip would appreciate any help getting set up or cleaned up after so come early and stay late.
You do not have to stay the entire week to shoot the entire program, but you'll be busy catching up if you're not there by Thursday. The shooting will be with Flintlock Rifle, Smoothbore, Pistol, bow and arrow and knife and tomahawk. The Widowmaker Frolic is a Blanket Shoot. You will never see a better prize blanket than at the Frolic.
Most people just get a long weekend off for Memorial Day so arrive when you can.
Grizz's Directions to the Widowmaker Frolic
From the Great White North
In Tennessee It is easier if you drive through the Land between the Lakes and it is a pretty drive. Just make sure you have your guns out of sight! In Tennessee get on Hwy. 79, then turn south on Hwy 232. You will cross Hwy 147 at McKinnon. The road will change its name to White Oak Road. When you pass the White Oak Community Center you will have one mile to go. The Driveway is on the right and there should be no doubt you have arrived at a Widowmaker Event. The address is 7210 White Oak Road.
From below the Smith & Wesson Line
From 1-40 take exit 143, Hwy 13. Go by Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and through Waverly ( this is your last chance to get a McDonalds Cheeseburger before you get to camp!) Go 7.3 miles and turn Left on CR-1781, Tennessee Ridge Road. Take the second road to the left at Hall’s Creek Road. There will be a yellow brick house on the left. Halls Creek Road will change to Greenbrier down the road. Just stay on this road for 8 miles from the yellow house , you turn right on New Hope Road across from the auto junkyard. When the road ends at New Hope Church Road, take a left on Cooley Ford- White Oak Road.
The driveway is 1.3 miles away a left turn in a sharp curve.
I hope to see all of you there!
If you can only make it to one event this year, the Widowmaker Frolic ain't a bad choice.
.........
As always, If you have news, tips, stories, etc. that you want to get out to the Widowmakers just let me know. I'll put it in the next Broken Arrow.
.........
Take care until I see you again,
Jethro
