But.
I have owned and shot original double barrels, reproduction double barrels, at least five other single barrel contemporary flintlock smoothbores, and an original cut-down reconverted to flint from percussion 1795 musket. I have yet to own a smoothbore that didn't shoot shot well. It is all in finding what it likes. Once you find the right wad/powder/shot combination any muzzle loading smoothbore/shotgun will shoot as well as a modern cylinder bore shot gun. Back when I shot a lot of trap I always used the same dipper for shot and powder. The powder was always 2f. When I got back into the game a few years ago, I found with my 20 gauge that the same method using 3f didn't work, and I had to cut the powder back to keep from blowing holes in the pattern. With the 16 gauge fusil, I'm using 2f for shooting ball, so I should be able to go back to the same measure for shot and powder. Most of the single barrels needed a little barrel tweaking. When I do get around to pattern testing the fusil I doubt that will be required. It has less drop than most of the others. Shooting round ball (which it does VERY well) I can sight it just like a rifle. The center of a pattern should be the same place a ball hits.
