Barking at television

My sweet Fergus has one habit that I would really like to break - barking at any animal on television. We can't watch anything with animals and even if a commercial comes on with an animal, we have to change the channel. I have scolded him when he does this but it seems to have no effect.
Other than that, he is the most wonderful dog ever.

Any suggestions?
