DOCP is an alternative to what this dog is currently taking, which is a daily pill. My vet decided to do the DOCP/monthly injection rather than the daily pill...although this might be a bit more expensive, for us it works great. It's also supposedly a newer, more advanced way to treat AD. Again, we've been lucky and Maggie has done great with DOCP. The most expensive part of AD is finding out the dog has it in the first place....after that, it's maintenance. We have a blood panel done every 6 months on Maggie. As far as introducing to new family members, and the stress, I guess it would depend on how everybody gets along. I'd suggest all meeting in a neutral place at first (not at home) and see how they do.
