My Westie, Maggie, now age 9, was diagnosed with Addison's 4 years ago. I'm attaching a website that is a great source of help and information on Addison's. To answer your question, yes, dogs can live a normal life with AD. If you met Maggie, you would never know she had a chronic illness. But it does require a monthly trip to the vet for her DOCP injection. You may want to discuss with your vet that this is a lifetime thing, and ask if he would reduce his costs to help you be able to adopt this dog. That's what I did with Maggie...our vet only charges for the medicine, and not an office visit each time, so that saves me a lot of money. For a dog Maggie's size, it costs us about $27 a month, which is well worth it. I'd say go for it!! Good luck.
