The personality traits of your dog sound exactly the same as mine. I had a similar experience where my male Westie was outside and he did not want to come inside. When I gently pushed his body to move towards the house, he bit me on my hand. This happened months ago and hasn't occurred since. The backyard is completely fenced in so when he is in the outside, he is in 'vermin hunting mode'. I would chalk it up to a one time event and don't let it bother you.
