Thank you for your help. Yes you are quite correct. John Richardson kept the "Crown and Anchor" in South Church which later became the "Red Aligator", named after the Grand National Winner which was ridden by Brian Fletcher. My grandmother Annie Patterson nee Richardson was born in this pub. It was still called the "Crown and Anchor" in the late 1940s or early 1950s when the Proud family kept it who were close friends of my maternal grandmother and mother. John Richardson also kept pubs at Canny Hill, New Hunwick and finally back to his birthplace at West Auckland.
