I have details of one Richardson family going back to the start of civil records. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Richardson and I have her ancestry for a generation or two. Two of her siblings left for south Yorkshire but my record states Barnsley. However, do not assume that this was the same family as yours. There were at least two families of this name at the turn of the ninteenth century and I suspect maybe three or more, not immediatly related to each other. In my case the Richardson name is only traceable back to the 1841 census as that census didn't give a person's place of birth, only whether he/she was born "in the county". In my ancestors case the entry is "N" for no. He was not shown in the 1851 census so this is a brick wall preventing any further progress. I have succeded in going further back with female lines.
What was your ancestor's forename and when was he born?
