The cup that West Auckland won in 1909 was in fact held the previous year, the Swiss team Servette FC won it and thus they are the winners of the "first world cup."
West Auckland did indeed take part and win it the following year. When researching the TV film of West Auckland with James Bolan the 1908 cup was overlooked as "winners of the second world cup" does not quite carry the same weight for the British TV public. Since then many people believe the BBC version. Sadly enought for West Auckland the one thing that can't be changed is history. Please update all references to this in honour of the Servette FC players that actually won the first world cup.
