Dear Carolyn, Many thanks for the message. I'm so glad that, unlike a few of us, your dad is still breathing both in and out, and fit. The only other Westite I'm in regular contact with is Stan Howe, also of Darlington Road (but now exiled in Aberdeen). Give my regards to Ken, and tell him I'd appreciate it if he could find time to write - my address is 4, Bligh Crescent, Seaforth, Australia (postcode 2092). To misquote Walter Huston, the blokes dwindle down to a precious few. Cheers, Bill
: In the 1940s I can remember 9 boys
: from Darlington Road who went to
: B.A.G.S.(now, because of a witless
: decision of the education
: "experts", sadly no more).
: They were John White (from the
: farm), Ken Alderson (at the
: Hummerbeck end), Buster Lamb, John
: Heaviside, Eddie Kears, Stan Howe,
: Eric Oliphant, a Scots boy (whose
: name escapes me) who lived in the
: bungalow at number 29, and myself
: (whose name doesn't escape me). I
: suspect that this is a record for
: intellectual achievement in such a
: short space,at least for the
: colliery villages round about -
: Bishop, especially the Cockton Hill
: district, was of course a special
: case.
