Hello Bill
I'm a daughter of Ken Alderson and I was pointed to your email by Brian Knowles in California. My father is living in Leamington Spa without email access. He sends his regards and remembers you as achieving 9 distinctions in the School Cert! Ken went on to become a civil engineer working for the Dept of Transport (and all its various names) until retirement.
Kind regards,
Carolyn
: In the 1940s I can remember 9 boys
: from Darlington Road who went to
: B.A.G.S.(now, because of a witless
: decision of the education
: "experts", sadly no more).
: They were John White (from the
: farm), Ken Alderson (at the
: Hummerbeck end), Buster Lamb, John
: Heaviside, Eddie Kears, Stan Howe,
: Eric Oliphant, a Scots boy (whose
: name escapes me) who lived in the
: bungalow at number 29, and myself
: (whose name doesn't escape me). I
: suspect that this is a record for
: intellectual achievement in such a
: short space,at least for the
: colliery villages round about -
: Bishop, especially the Cockton Hill
: district, was of course a special
: case.
