|There is a site somewhere and I cannot for the life of me find it now, which shows the NCB dewatering scheme for the south west durham coal field, it was centred on a shaft in the Colliery yard at West, on the site of the later coal board drift, and it shows the two haulers used in the shaft, and the lowering of the pumps down the shaft to begin the dewatering process, which was also later carried on at Eldon Colliery. It was successful and lowered the water table by many feet, and allowed the opening of several drift mines in the 1950s. any info. would be much appreciated.
