Dear Sheila, Afraid it wasn't me in the surgery - I'm actually in Sydney, Australia, where we've been for forty-odd years (we're thinking of staying). The only Hathaway I remember in West was Bernard, whose aunt lived in Front Street next to my gran's, near the Wheatsheaf on the corner, opposite Hubert Fairless' shop on the other corner; this was in the 1940s, long before you were born, I suspect. Thanks again for your efforts to contact Eddie Kears - I had a year at Copeland Lane School myself (because othe Essex and Durham rules were different I was too young to go to Bishop Grammar, so had to mark time for a year in West - as it happens, Nora Kears was the top girl in the class in my year).
: Hi, my brother is Terry Hathaway but
: he didn't go to the grammar, he went
: to Copeland Lane as did my other
: brother Keith and sister Jean. I'll
: phone Terry and get Eddie's address
: for you. Have I just seen you in
: the doctor's surgery?

: I remember Eddie Kears well, my
: elder
: brother was great friends with him.
: Just seen your message, if you
: haven't already found him I'll phone
: him, he's sure to be able to know
: how to contact him.

: When I lived in Darlington Road, in
: the 1940s, a little further down the
: road, near the schoolmaster Watson's
: house, there lived a family which
: included Eddie and Nora Kears.
: I'd rather like to get in touch with
: either of those before it's too late
: - Nora (now surnamed Patterson) is
: said to be living in Bishop and
: Eddie (Edwin) perhaps in Stockton.
: Can anyone tell me the address of
: either ? 'Twould make an old, old
: man (me)less miserable. Thanks.
