I'll be very grateful if anyone can tell me anything at all about John Heaviside's life and death. Long ago (in the 1940s) he lived in Darlington Road, in a back-to-back house, behind where Buster (all right,Cresswell) Lamb's family lived, and he (John) died some time in the 1970s in an accident in the garage of his home, which then was on the Coundon side of South Church. I (and, I expect, many others) have pleasant memories of Johnny as a skilful footballer (with a bald tennis ball) in our 'backs' in Darlington Road, and later as a useful wicket-keeper/batsman, playing for Evenwood C.C. Happy days.
