Posted by Patty When we moved into our new house, we had a problem with our two 9 year old doxies, being freaked about being in a new place and us leaving. So, I stuffed cottage cheese into hollowed out marrow bones that were about 3 inches long and stuck them in the freezer. I'd give these to the dogs when we left in the morning, the frozen treat kept them busy for about 20 minutes and gave us time to quietly leave without them catching on. Another thing, doxies do a whole lot better in multiples when you have to be gone for long periods of time. We have two, and they are a riot together. If there is anything else I can help you with, please email me by clicking my name above, I will try to help. And congratulations on your new puppy, doxies are such wonderful dogs. Your baby will eventually settle in and get into a routine. It takes time, puppyhood can be difficult. Just be sure to not make a big deal of leaving and don't get upset yourself. That behaviour can actually CAUSE separation anxiety. Please let us know how its going. Oh dear. Does he have safe toys, and a puppy pee pad and water and all that good stuff? Do you come home at lunch? He's still a baby and they need their mom, human or otherwise. You might try playing the radio. And also, don't make a big deal of leaving. Just put him in his pen, give him a milkbone, tell him he's a good boy, and leave. You could try leaving for short periods of time at first, so he sees that you will come back. Sneak back to the house to see if he has calmed down after 10 minutes or so. If he has, then you know that he is just upset for a little while when you first leave.
