Hi. Today my neighbor gave me her water turtle. Her children were more less abusing it. They were pouring maple syrup in the water, dropping toys inside the tank, hitting the outside of the tank, etc. So, I thought I'd take it when she offered. I was wondering if someone could help me identify it, and also tell me more on how to care for it. My turtle has yellow markings on its head. It's legs & shell have reddish orange markings. It has a reddish orange line going doen the middle of the shell. There is reddish orange on the back side of its shell also. (on it's stomach side) Could anyone identify it for me? The turtle is in a 20 gallon tank; but has only several inches of water in the tank. There is a big rock for the turtle to bask. The woman had been using a shop light to heat the water. The bulb is a 100 watt. Is that too hot?? I was told to give the turtle the Repto. brand floating food sticks. What else should it be eating? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
