Last Sunday I realized that everything in my freezer in my kitchen fridge was starting to thaw. Gack!! We had to take all the stuff out of the fridge and try and squeeze it in elsewhere. My chest freezer is already pretty full, so we only got a bit in there. Dave's beer fridge in the basement has a small freezer so stuff went in there, and fridge items went into the fridge part of it and into plastic tub bins. Our front entrance is not heated, so we closed it all off and put the 'not so delicate' stuff out there. When we came home from work we stuck the bins on the front porch to get colder for awhile, then back into the hall for overnight and the daytime. We couldn't get a service man till Tues. morning. Mon. night we pulled out the fridge and cleaned behind and under it - yuck. It had been leaking under there and what a mess of dried up dust! Tues. morning Dave stayed home and the service guy had dire news! The evaporator had gone, which in turn damages the compressor. They can't tell how long the compressor will last so recommend replacing it at the same time. Evaporater is 97.00, compressor is 450.00, labour est. at 2 to 3 hours at 60.00 per hour!!!! By this point you just buy a new fridge. Easy to say - but it is now 3 days before Christmas!! Tues. night we went out shopping for a fridge - no one had stock in the store (all in "the warehouse in Toronto") and could not deliver before Christmas!! How do I have Christmas dinner without a fridge?? We finally found a floor model clearance fridge at Sears, and they could arrange for an independant delivery guy to deliver it on Wed. afternoon. Phew! I came home from work for the delivery - was very intense getting the old one out and the new one in. Then I had to re-load the stuff into the new fridge and go thru everything and decide what made it and what I had to throw out. Lots of garbage!! Luckily it's our garbage day on Thurs. morning.
On top of all this we were moving out of our present office trailer at work, into the new bigger one and we had to do that Friday morning. So, I moved boxes and unpacked them all and set up the office again, then came home to clean and get ready for company on Christmas. I was bushed.
Dave had wanted ham this year, my brother's GF is Jewish, so we decided to also have a turkey roll with stuffing. I tell you - this is the way to go! I have created a new tradition - this was so easy-peasy compared to stuffing a turkey and messing around all day. With the meats I had scallop potatoes, mashed squash, corn, coleslaw, buns, cranberries and a pickle dish and it was delish! Everyone helped with the clean up and dishes and then left around 9:30. We straightened up a bit and then went to bed exhausted. But it was a very fun day and Santa was very good to me.
I hope your Christmas' were great and the Santa brought you just the right thing! Take care and have a good day!
