Cambox top off and all seemed sound. Refitted box.
Car up in the air and noise sounded to be from timing chain area.
getting frustrated already by not being able to put finger on fault.
It was then that I realised it was from water pump friction tensioner and belt. The belt had a chunk missing but even that was`nt visible as it was obscured by alternator pulley. Ordered a new tensioner from BMW who when asked informed me that the sell 130 of these per month.
Ordered new belt also and only on removal did I see the damaged area of the belt.
Beware of just fitting tensioner.
Following day got another of these in, unreal.
