I have found the Nick Menza interview which I conducted at the end of January/beginning of February...you know...the one I said I wasn't going to do a page for? The one where I said he didn't even answer some of the questions? The one where he gives really lame answers to questions I worked kinda hard on?
that you wanted to play music as a living? Did you always want to play heavy
metal music?
behind a drum kit at the age of 2. i never decided, it chose me. i didn't
always want to play metal, i like all music. but metal is in my top ten to
play.
a session drummer? How long had you been playing drums before you formed
your first bands and projects?
about it except for studio/session work. i became a session drummer because
pays so well and i enjoy playing different music. well, my first band lasted
a day, but i would say that by that point i had been playing for 9 years
give or take. i used to play the pots and pans.
Why did he chose you to become his drum tech? Had you heard of the band
before Chuck joined?
tech...dave did. and, i had heard of megadeth before chuck joined.
with guitarist Jeff Young. What made Dave Mustaine an Dave Ellifson decide
that
you were going to be their new drummer? Did you have to audition for them,or
> did they choose you because you were Chuck's drum tech?
then asked me if i knew the songs and i said i know them all. and then he
asked me if i had know one that he had just written and i said sure...he
played and i played along. the rest was history.

> 5-Did you do any of the songwriting for the "Rust In Peace" album? What
was it like being in the studio knowing that you might not be around for
another album considering how quickly Dave and Dave went through musicians.
18. you will notice that, that album says lead drummer. as for not being
around, it never crossed my mind.
>
> 6-So "Rust In Peace" is released, and metal fans love the album. How did it
> feel from going to being a session drummer to becoming one of the top
> drummers in heavy metal music? Do you think that the more technical
approach to songwriting and the aditions of both you and Marty Friedman was
what made this album so popular?
success, chicks and increased wallet size. we were hungry to play and was
the best representation of what was needed to suceed.
7-The next album "Countdown to Extinction" was a bit more mainstream, but
still heavy as hell. Did you contribute more to the songwriting on this
album than on "Rust In Peace"? How did it feel to be the drummer for one of
the
most popular heavy metal bands in existence?
publishing
Did you ever imagine that you would be in that position? What was it like
watching Dave Mustaine trying to fight drugs, but losing the battles? Did
you ever think he might wind up dead from the constant partying?
its cool, but you can't be personal. i always dug my favorite bands in a
small setting.
and dead... well he was clinically dead a few times. we were never sure
had ever written. What was it like crafting these songs with the band?
good Megadeth album. When you were recording and touring for the album, did
you have any idea that this album might be your last with Megadeth?
happens right?
did they fire you from the band? How did it feel to be gone from a band
that you had been playing in for eight years?
called up and said that my services were no longer needed.. that was a big
shcok. i thought he was joking, but he wasn't.. i was pissed but then
releived..
band,or did you return to performing session work?
born and here i am.
What can you tell us about the album? Is it in the vein of Megadeth...or
is it more experimental...or is it a fusion of styles?
i did it for my self. then word got out and i decided to make it a real
project. now it's for sale on my site.
> After Deth" album? Do any former Megadeth members appear on the record
(like Chris Poland of Marty Friedman)? What can people expect from the
album?
it all. no former megadeth guys on the album.
>
> 15-When I was watching the episode of "Behind the Music" about Megadeth,I
> noticed that you never appeared to comment on the music and years you
spent with the band. Were you contacted about it? What did you think of it
after
> you watched it (if you have seen it)?
>
> 16-Were you a fan of Megadeth before you joined the band? How did you feel
> when you haerd that Gar Samuelson died? Did you ever meet him before he
died?
>
> 17-What were some of your best memories of being in Megadeth? What were
some
> of the worst? Were you pissed that Dave got wasted on drugs before you
were
> to play the Boudakan in Japan?
when he partied, it was bad. you do not want to party with him then..
>
> 18-When you played live, what were your favorite songs to play? Did you get
a chance to play a drum solo? What exactly would you play? A little
jazz-fusion type of thing,or would you play a Metallica song in the hopes of
making
> Mustaine angry (lol)?
basically.
>
19-For anyone out there who is learning to play the drums,or is interested
in playing drums, what would be your advice to them? Who,as far as drummers
go, are you a fan of? Who do you think is currently the best drummer in
music?
phillips....
