Track One: Suffer Unto Me
Opening with that familiar melodic guitar sound, compliments of former Balistik Kick guitarist Mike Marino, “Suffer…” immediately rang attention to my senses. Vocalist Jack Kemple has a strong voice which nicely fits this music. Take the characteristics of Demon, Blaze Bayley, and NWOBHM and you have Avenue F. “Suffer…” seems to be a heavy song in its own right, mixing melodic hard rock and elements of metal. This is a nice opening track to maintain interest.
Track Two: Thin Ice
Slowing the pace down a bit, “Thin…” shows a softer side of this band. Although one may think this is hurtful to most bands, Avenue F really pull this song off with both talent and passion. Mike Betkowski’s drumming is a little harder than the pace of the song, which compliments nicely to the electric guitar parts. Vinnie Valdes’ bass playing plays along nicely with Mike’s guitar, which is no surprise as Vinnie is the former bass player of Balistik Kick. Jack’s vocals are great in this song, and the chorus is catchy.
Track Three: I Don’t Need You
Once again, Mike’s guitar playing shines thru in the opening riffs of “I Don’t…”. This is a hard rocking, balls out song. Yet again, we have a catchy chorus with easy sing-a-long potential. This is the kind of song you yearn to hear after a hard break-up. Simply stated: if this song doesn’t get your foot tapping and your mouth singing, then you need help…LOL!!!!!
Anyone looking for a Primal Fear or Iron Maiden-like album will not find it here. What you will find is an album full of great guitar hooks, passionate vocals, and a tight backbone from the bass and drum. Fans of Demon and the NWOBHM will enjoy this. Check it out & rock on!!!
