By accident I popped into the page on this site where several metal albums have been reviewed. I wanted to just take this opportunity to thank you for the good review of Possessed's 'Seven Churches. I ever-fondly remember when this album came out back in '85 or so. Spawning from the San Francisco bay area when thrash was making its debut, Possessed single handedly, in my opinion, created death metal. And as far as I can tell by dates of release they were the first death metal band as well. Of course they did sound more thrash than today's domestic death metal (Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, etc), but the lyrics and vocals are what set them aside from the "New Wave Of American Thrash Metal", as I think it was called back then. And as an interesting side note, Primus' guitar player Larry Lalonde was actually the lead guitar player in that band, who's ingenuitve style can be credited to Trey Azagthoth's lead style (though he gives credit to Eddy Van Halen, listen and compare and you'll know). Primus' guitar player being one of the original pioneers of death metal...surprising, no? And finally, if any of you want to check out Possessed and you see their cd "Beyond The Gates" on the shelf...DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Their second project was an utter failure, leaving their debut album a compilation of satanic assault which is sorely missed.
