I don't normally reply to people using an assumed name as everything could be a fabrication trying to provoke a response.
However, though I will be issuing a statement in writing, this does warrant a reply from me. I have personally apologised to both the Hitchin Chairman and their board.
Our football secretary has apologised by email and I will be sending a letter of apology. I have also apologised publicly on radio this morning.
The behaviour was completely out of character for Arlesey Town players who our generally hard working and gracious to their opponents. Unfortunately, the events of the past week with the 9 points deduction, of first winning the championship, having it taken away, then having to find the inner strength to go and win it again, took its toll on several players.
The game was played in an environment of great tension, so much was riding on the game for both sides and the incident was wrong but only lasted seconds, not minutes and the rest of the celebrations were lighthearted and jovial. The player that taunted the fans was booked.
Arlesey Town is a club with a long history. It is our dream that not only do we build as a community club but a family club. Bad behaviour of any kind is not tolerated or condoned.
