As a Hitchin fan who is also a regular at many local grounds throughout the course of the past few seasons, I feel obliged to post the following - NOT as a Hitchin fan I might5 add (although I'e no doubt that will come into question)
I congratulate Arlesey on the title and fair play, a title won fair and square with some to spare in the cold light of day.
However, the conduct of two players in their gesturing to the Hitchin fans behind the top goal (Deeney) and the player who jumped up on the fence in front of the directors box to gesture at the Hitchin Chairman was nothing short of disgraceful.
I, and many Hitchin fans were preparing to stay and applaud Arlesey's title presentation but at the point of these gestures, many of the Hitchin faithful walked out.
At the moment Arlesey won the title today, it lost much respect. I for one won't be at Arlesey next season (not even if Hitchin go there). I have been to eight home matches this season along with two colleagues who say likewise that they'lll no longer go to Arlesey home matches.
That amounts to three people lost coming through the turnstiles when a progressive club with ambition and fine facilities should be pro-actively seeking more clicks of those turnstiles. I was upset by the comments in a couple of Arlesey match programmes also, infantile remarks in a far below average publication which, paired with a terrible website does your club no favours.
Congratulations Arlesey on winning the league and in the same breath, congratulations on succeeding to earn a bad reputation for yourselves in local football circles with some shocking scenes of behaviour - witnessed by 1,500+ local football folk who will all have an opinion.
You've lost a lot of people's respect today, take that on board whilst sipping on champagne.
