It was tongue-in-cheek optimism, S. I am sure the new squad will not be selected on true footballing potential nor any desire to play for the Club for the sake of the Club (so forget the fans' plea for "local" players!); and given the track record of the Club in communicating anything, I am certain that few if any of last season's players will be contacted, especially not even to do the decent thing and tell then that they are not wanted. And I know that one of the players that they do want has no intention of signing now that Matt C has gone. It is interesting that the players had to set up their own phone forum to try and piece together what has been going on. Sadly (and it will be a travesty for the local community if it does happen), I think the Club committee will get what it deserves : South Midlands League in 2010-11, by which time the Ladies will probably have jumped ship and affiliated to another club, and Arlesey Athletic will either have moved elsewhere or be out of business because ATFC will try to boost its fallen revenue by increasing their rent; and the youth set-up will be distancing itself again. (Then the Ladies and Youth will do to remember that they made up something like 40% of the sub-committee that made the decision : the senior committte members were not part of that sub-committee, if the rumour-mill is to be believed).Still the people that matter will still have fancy titles like "Director of Football" so that's alright then. Some fans are talking about switching allegiance to Biggleswade Town - not a bad shout, if my player is forced to retire, I might join them, but I hope the one who yells abuse at the ref can't afford the bus fare up the A1 !!!! :-)
