I agree with dunc no serength in depth, that is what a reserve side is for,but reports in the local papers say they wont have one next season either they have offerd athletic another season,
apart from the pitch rental what good are they to the club. weare the only local side without a reserve team. a team made up of local lads and some prommising youngsters from our youth set up would be more to towns benafit,if you got 2 or 3
a season out of the res it would be a big help to the first team. they could play in the south mid league div one like cheshunt res did last year and bedford do this season.yes i know it would cost money to run another team, but if you used local players you would get the support of there friends and famlies. i remember when steve collet and glen clark started athletic i went to watch most of there games,the players were all local lads and they were getting good gates as well so it can pay off and they produced players that are now playing at a higher level than the town,gilbert hitchin,donnely borham wood,lhoneray dunstable,purton in the midlands. so it can pay off in the long run.
