Interesting point. When I lived in arlesey I was aware of the attitudes/relationship between arlesey and stotfold and the rivalry between the two villages (towns) I thought it was quite quaint and mirrored my native north east. As a young man drinking I always preferred arlesey for the pubs (The Star, true brit, and the other one near the old football ground site that I cannot recall the name of ? prince of wales.) My mates were mainly from arlesey. My local town is middlesbrough and I am a proud smoggie, distinct from the mackams from sunderland and the geordies from newcastle. Both up the road, but culturally worlds apart. My book is somewhat romantically nostalgic and I make no apologies for that. fairfield was a thriving community which provided good quality careto the patients and work for generations of families from the area.I have always praised the hospital and the area as it left me with many fond memories. But we all move on in life and the hospital was a starting point for a very succesful career for me.
