Last week I volunteered at an archaeological dig in Iowa City and a few fragments of this pattern came up, this was probably the largest and was about 1/2" across. The other fragments only had part of the speckled background seen on this piece, but this one had a person's head and hat.
The dig site was a residence and the levels dated to approximately the 1840's/1850's, so it's unlikely to be a pattern later than that (though 1860's could be possible)
I know it's not much to work with, but any suggestions or ideas are appreciated. I'm at a loss of where to even start.

Steve, this URL works when copied and pasted into the search field:
I am GUESSING that this is from a child's plate, and 1840s-50s does work for it. Identification from individual shards such as this is extremely difficult; hopefully you will find additional shards from the same plate and put them together?
