Has anyone come across either the pattern or the mark shown in the attached photos before? The pattern appears to be called Bird Eye and the initials "R.D." in the mark may be those of the maker. I have not yet found either the pattern or the mark documented anywhere.
Godden, in Encyclopaedia of British Pottery & Porcelain Marks, says that printed marks containing the initials "R.D." have been noted on earthenwares of the 1840-50 period. Prince Edward, the eldest son of Queen Victoria, was born in 1841 and created Prince of Wales the same year, which might explain the use of the Prince of Wales' feathers in the mark. Potters with the initials R.D. producing transferware in the 1840's include Richard Daniel (Stoke), Richard Dudson (Hanley) and R Davies (Newcastle-upon-Tyne). However, the design of the printed decoration in the bowl of the ladle would suggest a later date than the 1840's. Any ideas as to maker and date would be much appreciated.

Failed again with the images. One day I will get the hang of it! I have now given them to the webmaster and she normally posts by end of day Thursday.
