Does anyone know a transfer printed pattern called "Cadiz"? I can't provide an image of the pattern, so will have to give you a description as best I can. It is a romantic scene, typical of patterns produced in the mid 19th century, with a lake or river extending from the foreground into a distant mountainous region, a collection of tall continental European buildings to the left and tall tree to the right, and three figures standing on the lake shore in the foreground, apparently a man and women in conversation with a boy carrying something (possibly a fishing rod) over his shoulder. The colour of the print is a wishy-washy blue. The pattern mark is a simple scroll cartouche with the word CADIZ inside it. Under the mark is what appears to be the name J C & SONS. According to the TCC database this could be John Carr & Sons of North Shields (1854-90) or James Cooper & Sons of Glasgow (1850-53). Either of them could have been contemporary with the pattern, judging from the style of the print, though I feel that a Scottish connection is more likely. If anyone can confirm which pottery produced the Cadiz pattern I would be most grateful.
