I purchased a small covered tureen (approx 7 1/2" L x4"H x 4 1/2" w) many years ago. It is blue and has ITALIAN SCENERY TERNI written on the bottom enclosed in a feathery, flowery scroll pattern. It is the only piece of transferware I own and am curious about its origin. Any way you might provide information? Many Thanks, Bonnie Risse

Hi Bonnie. Sounds like you have a piece from Enoch Wood's Italian Scenery series, at least there is a dark blue tureen in the database with this view, of a lake with boats below a church with bell tower and another towered building. A beautiful piece, probably dating from the 1820s or 1830s. It seems at least some of the views in this series were based on source prints from a book, also entitled Italian Scenery, published about 1820 and taken from drawings by a Miss Elizabeth Batty.
