BW&Co could be Bates, Walker & Co of Dale Hall Works, Burslem active 1875-1878 or Buckley, Wood & Co of High Street Pottery, Burslem active 1873-1885. The pattern is Rhine, which is similar to John Wedg Wood's Geneva, but if you could see more of the shard I am pretty certain that you would find the castle more solid and less ornate that that in the Geneva pattern. Rhine and Geneva are significantly different in detail, although broady similar in concept. Rhine was made by a number of different makers. I have no record of either the Bates or the Buckley partnership making Rhine. However, as you say, the backstamp on the shard is similar to the style of John Wedg Wood's backstamps, so it is possible there is a connection, although I do not know of one. (Yet!) Regards Andrew
