Wedgwood & Co. platter Posted by Kay on May 31, 2009, 8:22 pm 71.227.121.82 My family owns a lavender platter made by Wedgwood & Co. We were told that it is a sub-color of flow blue, which I guess is a kind of transferware (from what I've read online). The platter is approximately 20" x 16" and is oval shaped. Based on an internet search of Wedgwood & Co., the platter appears to be from between 1860 and 1900, as it has an impressed mark. http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/w/wedgwoodandco.html The back of the platter is also stamped Amerillia. An internet search has yielded very little information about this pattern. I only found reference on the Kovels website and a website for a 1999 auction. I am hoping that someone can either help me out by explaining this pattern and color further, or at least point me in the right direction. My family is very curious how much this platter is worth...since we sometimes use it for Thanksgiving dinner. Should it be put away for safe keeping in a cabinet, instead? Hill's self-published book (MULBERRY IRONSTONE Flow Blue's Best Kept Secret) with several pieces and the mark illustrated. So you are correct in your assumption that it is related to Flow Blue. The design was registered in 1849 by Podmore Walker & Co., predessors to Wedgwood & Co. It was produced before 1860 by P W & Co. and after 1860 by Wedgwood & Co. According to Hill, the pattern is scarce, and the price is average.  Post a Response
