Please help identify this pattern. Posted by Peter on May 27, 2009, 2:20 pm 209.6.140.242 I cannot identify the pattern or maker of this 10" transferware plate. Can anyone help? The pattern on the outside edge of the border appears to be unique. I have given my image to the webmaster and she will post within 48 hours.  Post a Response

It is illustrated on p97 in Gillian Neale's "Encyclopedia of British Transfer-Printed Pottery Patterns 1790-1930" on a plate and a tureen stand, where it is called "Fruit & Flowers". Like Pat, I also saw it on the cover of Jeffrey Snyder's book "Romantic Staffordshire Ceramics" but found no reference to it inside the book!  Post a Response

As I mentioned in my reply to Pat, I suspected that it might be Clews, because I have seen a picture of a Clews plate that is similar to it. I am a great, great grandson of James Clews and we have much of his transferware, which would explain why it is in my family's possession. This particular plate is extremely beautiful and a deeper blue than the other patterns. Peter  Post a Response

Snyder. Strange, because I can not find the plate, pattern or potter (maybe Clews?) identified anywhere in his book. (am I missing a page? did I over look it?) Usually an early book page will identify/describe cover material, but I find no such page. Perhaps Jeffrey B. Snyder ALSO didn't know the answer?  Post a Response
