When was this pattern produced? Posted by Teresa on July 14, 2008, 11:47 pm 71.7.69.172 I have about 30 pieces of a beautiful set of dishes with the following mark on them: The word "Davenport" at the top, a crown below that, a ribbon that says "Royal Staffordshire Pottery", a Lion standing up in the middle of the ribbon, Wilkinson Ltd. below the ribbon, England below that and then Reg. #635696 below that. I know it was made somewhere between 1900 and 1920, but would like to know a little more about it. The pattern itself is a border on the rim of the items only. The center is all white. The border has pheasants on it , with a gold rim and a darker skinny blue border on the inside edge. An image of the pattern is available at: http://www.replacements.com/webquote/ROSDAVB.htm. Posted by Andrew J Pye on July 16, 2008, 3:48 pm, in reply to "When was this pattern produced?" 84.92.89.69 Hi Teresa Arthur J Wilkinson Ltd of the Royal Staffordshire Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire made your dishes and used that backstamp from 1910 onwards. Davenport is the pattern name and may have something to do with the famous Davenport pottery that closed down in 1887 and Wilkinson certainly bought some of Davenport's patterns, although I have never seen this design on a piece marked Davenport. The registered number shows that Wilkinson registered the design as a new one in 1914. It is unlikely they would have registerd an old Davenport design as a new one, so perhaps the name denotes quality by association, rather than origination? 1914-1920 would be a likely production period, possibly until mid-1920s.
