Ware: I believe the form of your bowl to be a small punch bowl, not a wash bowl, although others may call it something else. It probably dates from sometime in the 1830s to 1840s, conceivably a bit later. The floral pattern is actually the border of a pattern shown in Williams and Weber vol. 3; the pattern is some sort of typical generic garden scene with a floral arbor, large urn and butterfly. W/W show the same pattern mark as your piece. The example shown in W/W is a brown scalloped cup plate, so this pattern was obviously fairly widely produced in various forms and colors, perhaps by more than one maker. W/W state that the maker is "unknown". Maybe someone will will come up with an identification of the maker(s). By the way, we do not (yet) have this pattern in our data base.
