Hi Susan. I looked at the 2008 meeting issue again. That's the first time I noticed that Etruscan Vases piece! Unfortunately I have no idea who the dealer might have been. A couple of thoughts about the marks on your tureen. If the 1 over 1577 is a painted mark, it might be a pattern number for any painted decoration on the piece. If the 4 over 63 is impressed it sounds like a date code for April 1863, which would have been the date the tureen was made, not the date the pattern was put on, though it would probably have been decorated soon after. Liddle, Elliott & Co (1860-1870) was the partnership in business at that time, followed by Bates, Elliott & Co and then Bates, Walker & Co if my memory serves. There are ten patterns in the database with "Etruscan" in the name, and there were a number of other patterns besides that. There was a lot of interest in classical artifacts and ruins and the Staffordshire makers capitalized on that interest with their pattern names. In fact a lot of so-called "Greek" vases in English collections were Etruscan. Len
