Hi Susan. This is an interesting pattern, evidently made over several decades by succeeding partnerships. Bates, Walker & Company was the sixth partnership to produce the pattern, which started with Thomas & John Mayer, who were in business 1838-1842. Bates Walker's successor, Gildea, Walker & Co., also made it. I entered this pattern in the TCC database and conjectured that Bates, Walker & Co also produced it without having seen or heard of an example; it's nice to hear that you have a piece with their maker's mark!
